Rubio, Christie battle in a snowy New Hampshire
“I’ve spent more days up here than any other candidate. This today is my 69th day in New Hampshire. We’ve got Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz who are both first-term US senators who have never run anything bigger than a 30-person staff,” New Jersey Governor Chris Christie said Friday morning at an employee town hall at Timberland World Headquarters.
Rubio is feeling what his supporters call “Marcomentum.” It’s the momentum the Rubio campaign is feeling after a third-place finish in Iowa and a newly released poll from NBC/WSJ/Marist showing Rubio moving into second place in New Hampshire.
Rubio took time out from the campaign to respond to the attacks. “At the end of the day this election is about the future, not just the resume competition. This election is about what happened next for America,” he said.
The Florida senator’s support is strong. A Friday rally was originally scheduled for a middle school cafeteria. It had to be moved into the school’s gymnasium to fit a larger-than-expected crowd.
Chris Ward traveled all the way from Wesley Chapel to show his support for Rubio and help get the senator’s message out.
“Where, as other candidate may be more negative attack more and have a more negative kind of message, I really like Marco’s positive message,” Ward said.
As for Christie, he is sticking with his original plan. When asked about Rubio’s rise in the polls, he told News Channel 8, “I mean the guy got a third-place finish. Congratulations, he did better than me. It was a third-place finish, and everybody expected he was going to finish in third place so I don’t understand all the excitement.”
Christie, Rubio and the other Republican candidates are set to duke it out Saturday night in another debate.
